Burger & Chunky Chips

Home Made Beef Burger & Sweet Potato Chunky Chips

This is a great way to get that naughty feeling from some really healthy food. Why not try making these with the kids or with your friends at the weekend.



  • Sweet Potatoes, peeled and chopped into chips (You’ll need 1 large sweet potato for every 2 people. I prefer them to be large as you can get some really good chunky chips.) 
  • 1 Tbsp oil per large potato
  • 1-2 Tbsp freshly chopped rosemary
  • 1-2 tsp paprika
  • Salt & freshly ground black pepper
  • **You can adjust the spices and herbs to your liking. Add more, or choose your favourites. 


Preheat the oven to 220-250 Celcius. A hotter oven will produce a crunchier crisp on the edges.

Place all of the ingredients in a large bowl and use your hands to mix through until all chips are coated in oil, spices and herbs. Set out the chips on a baking tray and place in oven for 30 minutes. Check the chips after 15 minutes and turn them over.


Quickly rinse out the large bowl to make burgers in



  • 500g lean minced beef
  • 1 onion or 4 spring onions chopped finely
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp of coriander
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 tsp chilli powder
  • 1 Tbsp mustard (you can use your favourite but I prefer wholegrain)
  • 1 egg yolk
  • Salt & freshly ground black pepper


Put all of the ingredients in a bowl and mix together. Once well combined separate into 4 equal mounds and shape into burgers. You can chill them in the fridge until the chips are cooked.

Once the chips are ready keep them warm in the bottom of the oven and change the setting to a medium/high grill. Grill burgers for 15 minutes on each side. 

Whilst the burgers are cooking you can prepare a fresh salad. My favourite is spinach and salad leaves with fresh tomato, avocado and a couple of olives. User some pickled gherkins on the side for a nice tangy accompaniment.
